Title: Shopify Theme Developer (Contract)

About the Role
Co-Curator is looking for an experienced Shopify Theme Developer to support custom theme builds and storefront optimization for museum and cultural institution clients. This is a project-based contract role focused on design-forward, ADA-compliant, high-performance themes built on Shopify Plus.
You'll work closely with our design team and project managers to translate custom layouts into scalable, merchant-friendly storefronts. Projects include new builds as well as ongoing theme customizations and upgrades for existing clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop and customize Shopify themes, primarily using Dawn or Flex themes
- Implement metaobjects, metafields, and JSON templates for scalable, dynamic content
- Build intuitive Theme Editor settings for non-technical merchant teams
- Ensure all themes meet WCAG 2.1+ accessibility standards (ADA compliance)
- Optimize for performance, SEO, structured data, and clean admin UX
- Debug Liquid, JavaScript, and front-end issues
- Work collaboratively from Figma designs and communicate clearly with designers and developers
- Apply Shopify Plus-specific features where needed
Requirements
- Available during US business hours
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- 5+ years of experience developing on Shopify themes
- Strong expertise in metaobjects, metafields, and Shopify’s dynamic theme architecture
- Proven experience building accessible (WCAG 2.1+ compliant) Shopify storefronts
- Proficient with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JSON template structure
- Comfortable working directly from Figma files for design-to-dev handoff
- Comfortable iterating from brand guidelines or scraping styles from client websites
- Familiarity with Shopify Plus feature set and theme-related workflows
- 2–3 Verified Shopify Skills required (Co-Curator will cover the cost)
- NDA required as part of the hiring process

- Prior experience working for a Shopify Plus Partner agency
- Familiarity with the nonprofit or museum commerce space
