Title: Shopify Junior Theme Developer (Contract)

About the Role
Co-Curator is looking for a Junior Shopify Theme Developer to support custom theme work for museum and cultural institution clients. This is a contract role suited to developers who have solid Shopify experience, a strong front-end foundation, and are eager to grow by working on real projects within a fast-moving agency environment.
You'll work alongside senior developers and designers, using Figma files, structured brand assets, and existing themes (Dawn, Flex) to implement clean, accessible, and conversion-friendly Shopify storefronts.
Responsibilities
- Assist in customizing Shopify themes, primarily based on Dawn or Flex
- Implement metafields and simple metaobject structures for dynamic content
- Build and test user-friendly theme settings for merchant use
- Ensure theme changes meet basic WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
- Participate in performance and QA checks
- Debug layout, Liquid, or JavaScript issues in collaboration with Director or senior devs
- Work directly from Figma designs and brand documentation
- Communicate clearly with Director and senior developers
Requirements
- Must be available during US business hours
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to ask questions and learn
- 1–3 years of experience working with Shopify themes
- Proficient in HTML, CSS, and basic Liquid templating
- Some familiarity with metafields, JSON templates, and Shopify’s dynamic theme structure
- Comfortable working from Figma and brand guidelines
- Comfortable using GitHub and Shopify CLI and willing to adopt workflows
- Attention to detail and interest in accessibility best practices
- 1–2 Verified Shopify Skills required (Co-Curator will cover the cost)
- NDA required as part of the hiring process

Preferred
- Prior experience working for a Shopify Plus Partner agency
- Familiarity with the nonprofit or museum commerce space
